Police walking out of the Union meeting after the vote to strike

Photographs

September 9th, 1919

Boston Public Library

Original Record

A black and white photograph of a large group of men walking towards the camera in an alleyway. Some of the men wear police uniforms and some do not. The policemen are wearing helmets and have badges over their left breast pocket. Several of the men not wearing uniforms are wearing straw pork pie hats. The men seem calm and some of them are talking to each other as they walk.

As a result of the intransigence of their commissioner, the new Boston Police Union voted near unanimously, 1134 to 2, to strike. Boston Globe.

After the vote to strike by the Boston Police Union, the members of the police force left as a crowd.
