Boston changemakers created all sorts of images and objects in their pursuit for freedom, justice, and equity. Explore here to see which assets we chose to include in our articles.

Artifacts

An artifact is an object created or modified by a human being. In our articles we included several artifacts including a banner, quilt, and a set of handcuffs.

Artwork

We used many different pieces of art in our articles–such as paintings, cartoons, drawings, and engravings–to illustrate our narratives. These include portraits of famous and infamous people as well as political cartoons and many other fascinating examples.

Ephemera

Ephemera are special items made from paper which were meant to only last for a short amount of time. Over the years they gained significance and became collectables. We used many pieces of ephemera to supplement our articles including broadsides, tickets, postcards, pamphlets, and more.

Maps

We used several maps of Boston from different time periods to situate our articles in this particular location.

Photographs

Photographs can be some of the most engaging assets to work with in the field of history. In our articles we included photographs from several different fights for justice including the Boston Police Strike of 1919, woman suffrage, and gay rights.

Published Works

We supplemented our articles with many different examples of published works including newspaper clippings, pages from books, and other written word in published format.
