Supporters of gay marriage celebrate outside of the Massachusetts State House after the Legislature voted against an amendment banning gay marriage, which had been legalized in Massachusetts in 2004.

This photo depicts the celebration that followed the 2007 reaffirmation of gay marriage’ legality in Massachusetts. In 2007, the Massachusetts State Legislature voted against an amendment banning gay marriage, which had been legalized in the state three years earlier. Although massive strides have been made in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, advocacy must uphold rights that have already been won.
